This Job Aid will go over the process of building and scheduling a Partially Online Class Section

Navigate the Menu by going to: Campus Solutions > Curriculum Management > Schedule of Classes > Schedule New Course.

Within the Search Criteria, enter the term, subject, catalog number, campus of the section you want to schedule.

If there are existing sections, click the plus (+) icon to create a new section otherwise, proceed to Step 4.

Within the Basic Data tab select your Session Code by clicking on the magnifying glass.

The class Start and End Date will default from the selected Session Code. Please reference the Session Code handout found in the mySDCCD infohub for the term.

Following the numbering convention below enter the Class Section Number and tab out of the field to confirm your entry.

  •  City Class Section number begins with a 1, followed by a number range between 001-999.

  • Mesa Class Section number begins with a 2, followed by a number range between 001-999.

  • Miramar Class Section number begins with a 3, followed by a number range between 001-999.

  • Continuing Education Class Section number begins with a 4, followed by a number range between 001-999.

  • District Class Section numbers will always begin with a 7, followed by a number range between 001-999.

Check with your campus lead scheduler about using special Class Section numbers for Promise Program, Learning Communities, etc.

Note: The class section number will also populate in the Associated Class and Primary Instr Section field.

 In the Location field click the magnifying glass and select Partially Online.

In the Instruction Mode field click the magnifying glass and select the appropriate Instruction mode for a Partially Online class.

  • 71 if the online portion of the class will be meeting synchronously.

  • 72 if the online portion of the class will be meeting asynchronously.

 In this job aid, we will be selecting 72 – DE-Internet-Delayed Exchange.

Navigate to the Meetings Tab to begin building out the Class Meeting Patterns. Partially-Online sections should always have two meetings patterns, typically one for On-Campus and a second for the Online component (Asynchronous or Synchronous).

Important: Build out the meeting pattern for On-campus portion first! This will help determine the remaining TBA hours for the online portion.

A.) Enter the Facility ID for the On-Campus meeting pattern.

B.) Enter the Mtg Start and Mtg End time.

C.) Check the boxes for the Days the class will be meeting.

Click the Recalc button to allow the system to calculate the Scheduled and Total hours for the on-campus meeting pattern.

This will help determine the number of TBA hours needing to be assigned for our Asynchronous Online meeting pattern.

 Note: Synchronous meeting patterns will be calculated and displayed in the “Scheduled Hours” field.  

 In the screenshot below, the scheduled hours for our campus meeting = 31.00.

The system will calculate your meeting patterns and display them within the Scheduled, TBA, and Total Hours Box. The values in these fields should be used to audit if the class meets the Course Outline of Record (COR) hours for the course.

Build your Online Meeting Pattern. In this Job Aid we will build an Asynchronous meeting pattern.

A.) Enter the Facility ID for the Online meeting pattern. The words Web and Remote should be part of the Facility ID.  

B.) Enter “TBA” in the PAT field.

C.) Enter an hours value in the TBA Hours field.

  • The TBA Hours value can be determined by calculating the difference between the Maximum Hours – Scheduled Hours = TBA Hours. (See second screenshot)

Important Note: Any class with an online component will always have a SPDG Class Attribute value.

Return to the Basic Data tab and Navigate to the bottom of the page under Class Attributes.

On the same row, click the magnifying glass icon next to the field under Course Attribute Value, and select either:

  •  “HYBRID”, if more than 50% of instruction is on campus and less than 50% is online

OR

  • “ONLINEMTG”, if more than 50% of instruction is online and less than 50% is on campus.

Since we know from the hours box in the Meetings tab that Scheduled Hours > TBA Hours (Online Component). The Hybrid Course Attribute Value will be selected.

Navigate to the Enrollment Cntrl tab. Input your Enrollment and Wait List Capacity by inputting a value in those fields.
