This data element indicates whether or not a student is first generation using data on parental education from CCCApply.

Student can provide both parents' education. This data is stored in the CS Table PS_X_AD_SDCCD_ED and the Fields X_PG1_HGHST_EDLVL and X_PG2_HGHST_EDLVL. The highest number is evaluated first.

1 = Grade 9 or less = Y
2 = Some high school = Y
3 = High school graduate = Y
4 = Some college credit = N
5 = Associate degree = N
6 = Bachelor's degree = N
7 = Graduate degree = N
X = Unknown = 9
Y = No parent/guardian raised me = 9
