May 14, 2026 8:39 AM - SDCCD Network Update
As a friendly remainder internet access, Wi‑Fi connectivity, and district file server access is re-enabled Districtwide.
In addition, all primary web pages are active with the exception of the main district site:http://SDCCD.edu. District site will be activated pending action from our external partner, validation and testing. That vendor has prioritized providing us with the needed actions and we continued to get updates throughout last night on progress. While an exact ETA is not available as of yet we look forward to having further updates on status prior to the end of the business day today.
If you encounter any challenges with internet access, Wi-Fi connectivity, file server access or web pages, please follow our normal approach of filing a ticket with the Help Desk (619‑388‑7000 or itservicedesk@sdccd.edu).
May 13, 2026 11:51 AM - SDCCD Network Update
The District has made positive progress toward fully restoring our network and related systems over the weekend. We have been able to provide restoration of some network services to Miramar College and will be restoring access by college over the coming days.
Throughout the morning, we have been restoring access for key systems, such as financial aid, to monitor and assess security and performance. So far, the results have been positive. We have built and implemented new security systems, which have performed well in early tests. We are conducting the individual device scan across the district and no issues have been identified at this time.
We anticipate restoration of transcript services soon and will keep you posted.
May 8, 20263:25 PM - SDCCD Network Update
Our IT team has made significant progress this week toward fully restoring our network, internet access, website, file servers, and other impacted services. Our current status is all our impacted systems have been fully scanned and analysis of the data is underway.
The analysis will continue over the weekend and, if no issues are identified, be completed by Monday. Over the weekend we will also conduct a scan of all computers and devices operating on our network, approximately 5,500 devices districtwide. If the analysis and device scans reveal no issues, we will begin restoring our network and systems Monday morning. The process will occur in segments, with systems being brought online and monitored in phases. This will allow us to assess for any lingering issues before we bring our network fully online.
If there are no issues found, we will likely be fully restored Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning. If there are issues to remediate, the timeline will be extended based on the severity of the issue. The District will send an update if we encounter anything that would cause a delay.
May 8, 2026 2:24 PM - Canvas
The CCCCO Security Center has completed its work and advised districts may safely restore Canvas access with local security procedures implemented. These include our multi-factor authentication (MFA), single-sign on (SSO), and other measures.
While most students and faculty will immediately see their access to Canvas restored, if you experience any log in issues please try again in a few minutes. We expect all access to be fully stable today.
We encourage all students, faculty and staff to be attentive to SDCCD email accounts regularly, as this is how the District is sharing updates. Information is also available at https://bit.ly/sdccdupdates
Practice Good Cybersecurity Hygiene
The following are important reminders for what to avoid and how to report issues or concerns.
If you receive any ransomware requests or demands to make payments, do not respond.
Do not attempt to open any links, do not download any attachments and do not reply to the message. Always report any emails that look suspicious to our IT Help Desk. Outlook users can right click on the email, click "Report" and "Report Phishing."
Avoid saved or emailed URLs when accessing the Canvas portal. Log in through official college links only.
Do not click unexpected Canvas links or attachments.
Be attentive and do not ignore anything that looks unfamiliar or suspicious. Change your password if anything appears suspicious. Avoid sharing login credentials or screenshots that expose account details.
Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we work to continue serving students.

We have received reports of Canvas users receiving an email scam message from the group that hacked Canvas. The email asserts the hackers have been monitoring user’s activity on web browsers and have obtained compromising information, which they will delete if paid $2,000 in bitcoin within 48 hours.
This is a scam.
We are working to block these emails sent to sdccd.edu email addresses. We cannot block emails sent to non-SDCCD email addresses. Anyone receiving such a message should delete it immediately. Do not click on any links, open any attachments, or download any files.
As a reminder: We are aware of reports that millions of users are currently impacted globally. Given this situation, the District has disabled access to Canvas as an additional precaution as we await further information from Instructure. Students, faculty and staff should not attempt to access the Canvas portal at this time and until receiving a notification from the district that access is cleared.
May 7, 2026 1:19 PM
Good Afternoon SDCCD Community,
Approximately 30 minutes ago, access to Canvas was disabled. According to a message displayed when users attempted to log in, the organization that initiated the cyberattack on Instructure over the weekend was able to access the Canvas platform again and lock all users out of the system. This outage is impacting all institutions using Canvas. This is a separate incident from our network outage and local cybersecurity attack.
All Canvas users, including all faculty and students should take the following steps immediately:
Log out and exit the Canvas platform
If using the Canvas App, close the app
If using web browser access, close the web browser
Do not attempt to log into Canvas until you receive a notice from SDCCD that is safe to do so
Remain on high alert for emails, social media posts, or other electronic communications asking you to click on links, enter or share username and password information, download files, or open attachments
We have notified the California Community College Chancellor’s Office (CCCCO) of the incident. SDCCD’s Canvas access is made available through CCCCO and they are the system’s primary point of contact with Instructure. We will provide updates on this situation as soon as new information is available.
We understand the severity of impact this has given the timing and end of spring semester. The District will be monitoring this in real time and communicating with CCCCO until it is resolved. Thank you for the flexibility and resilience you have shown throughout this week and managing the additional impacts of this latest development. Continuity of access for our students is our first priority and we are all essential in that effort.

Dear SDCCD Community,
We wanted to provide a quick update on the network situation affecting our district.
While our IT professionals and vendors have been working nearly continuously since Saturday, our network will need to remain down on Wednesday and Thursday. At this time, we expect full restoration will not be possible until Friday afternoon. While the district acknowledges the scope of impact this has on instruction, counseling, libraries, and many student support offices, as well as our administrative offices, the decision to remain offline is a necessity, not merely a precaution.
In the meantime, we want to reassure you that several key services remain fully operational:
mySDCCD
Canvas
TimelyMD (TimelyCare)
Some campus operations have been affected by the outage, and we appreciate your flexibility as our teams work through the disruption.
Classes are continuing as scheduled. Unless you hear directly from your instructor, please plan to attend your classes as normal.
We will continue to share updates as the situation develops. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
San Diego Community College District
May 4, 2026 5:03 PM
We want to keep you informed about an event affecting our district's technology systems.
Over the past several days, San Diego Community College District has experienced sophisticated and coordinated attempts to gain unauthorized access to our network. We want to reassure you that our cybersecurity systems have successfully blocked these attempts, and no student, employee, or district data has been compromised.
We anticipate the disruption may continue through tomorrow and are working as quickly as possible to restore full access. During this time, some online services, systems, and campus operations may be limited.
Classes will take place as scheduled unless otherwise stated by your instructor.
Services and Programs Currently Affected:
We understand this comes at a busy point in the semester, and we sincerely appreciate your patience. The security of your personal information and the continuity of your education remain our top priorities.
